The Fastest Computer in the World is a Mac!

Apple Mac Pro - The Fastest Personal Computer in the World

Apple have just released a flurry of hardware updates across its range of personal computers.

One of the most striking is their update to the Mac Pro.

Although not available till later this year, this update already makes my eyes water!

The Mac Pro is Apple's top of the line power house personal computer. The coming update almost doubles its already impressing performance.

The new Mac Pro comes packed with Intel’s new “Nehalem” and “Westmere” Xeon processors that contain six-cores on a single die running up to 3.33GHz.

They also come complete with the company’s new “Turbo Boost” feature, allowing the chips to exceed speeds they are originally clocked at

Also, with each individual physical core, there are two virtual cores, giving the Mac Pro 24 virtual cores that are recognized by Mac OS X: Snow Leopard.

“The new Mac Pro is the most powerful and configurable Mac we’ve ever made. With up to 12 cores, the new Mac Pro outperforms our previous top-of-the-line system by up to 50 percent, and with over a billion possible configurations, our customers can create exactly the system they want.” – Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing.

Apple has also made storage and RAM containment possibilities on the machine simply jaw-dropping. Cupertino has given the ability to hold up to four 1TB and/or 2TB Serial ATA (Advance Technology Attachment) HDDs (equals to up 8TB storage capacity in total) and up to four 512GB (just about 2.05TB) SSDs (Solid State Drive).

The computer can also house up to 32GB of DDR3 memory (four per processor) clocked up to a speed of 1333MHz (1.33GHz), combining that power with stability of the 64-bit processing capacities of Snow Leopard to result in alarming application and OS response.

There are some other impressive numbers associated with this machine which you can see on the Apple website

Of course I do wonder what you could use this machine for? Maybe taking over the world? Certainly updating your Facebook status might be underusing it a tad!

Let us know if you're getting one, and what things you'd like to get up to with it!
